Poached Pears with Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Drizzle
Ingredients:
4 firm pears (Bosc or Anjou work well)
1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise, or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup granulated sugar
4 cups water
1 cinnamon stick
Zest of 1 orange (for a citrusy touch)
Vanilla ice cream for serving
Chocolate sauce for drizzling
Mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Prep the Pears:
Peel the pears, leaving the stems intact. Slice the bottoms off to help them stand upright.
Make the Poaching Liquid:
In a large saucepan, combine water, sugar, the split vanilla bean (or vanilla extract), cinnamon stick, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Poach the Pears:
Place the pears in the simmering liquid, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and simmer gently for about 20-25 minutes, or until the pears are tender but still hold their shape.
Cool the Pears:
Remove the pears with a slotted spoon and let them cool. Continue to simmer the liquid until it reduces by about half and becomes slightly syrupy.
Serve:
Serve each pear on a dessert plate with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Drizzle generously with the reduced poaching syrup and chocolate sauce. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
