Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions
Ingredients:
– 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
– 2 tablespoons soy sauce
– 1 tablespoon cornstarch
– 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
– 1 large onion, thinly sliced
– 2 bell peppers (any color), thinly sliced
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
– 1/4 cup soy sauce
– 1/4 cup beef broth
– 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
– 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
– 1 teaspoon sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
– Cooked rice (for serving)
– Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Directions:
1. Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced steak with 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Set aside for 10 minutes.
2. Sear the Steak: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the steak and sear for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
3. Cook the Veggies: In the same pan, add the onion, bell peppers, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until softened.
4. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the 1/4 cup soy sauce, beef broth, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (optional).
5. Combine and Simmer: Add the steak back to the pan, pour the sauce over, and stir to coat. Let everything simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
6. Serve: Serve the pepper steak hot over cooked rice and garnish with chopped green onions.
