Italian Christmas Cookies
Ingredients:
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 2 large eggs
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
– 2 teaspoons baking powder
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup powdered sugar
– 2-3 tablespoons milk
– Sprinkles for decoration
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Beat in the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
6. Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 tablespoon each) and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely.
8. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to create a glaze. Drizzle or dip the tops of the cookies in the glaze.
9. Decorate with sprinkles while the glaze is still wet.
10. Allow the glaze to set before serving.
